Three
years ago I had a 3rd grade
student named Nick L. whose
father had moved out in
September, leaving his mother to
support three boys. Mrs. L. only
had a part-time job at the time.
I submitted her name to the
NorthCare Foundation’s
Clothe-A-Child for help with
purchasing clothes for her three
boys that year.
Mrs. L. was able to get a full
time job after several months,
but was still struggling to pay
all the bills. The NorthCare
Foundation’s Clothe-A-Child was
gracious enough to allow her
children to receive the clothing
shopping spree for a second
year.
Now, Mrs. L.’s oldest son is a
second year student at
Brookhaven College. Mrs. L. has
gotten a better job and is
supporting her children. She has
also moved her 85 year old
mother into her home to care for
her. Nick L. is now in the 5th
grade and has qualified for the
Duke University Talent Search
Program, which is designed for
students who score high on
standardized tests.
Mrs. L. often mentions her
appreciation to the NorthCare
Foundation’s Clothe-A-Child for
their help during that difficult
transition period of their life.
She said the clothes received
and the kindness of the
volunteers brought hope in a
very dark time.
